The World Congress on Aging and Physical Activity is an international congress held by the International Society for Aging and Physical Activity (ISAPA) once each 4 years. The ISAPA was born as an associated congress of the 10th International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, held in Jerusalem, Israel in 1975. At the time it was not positioned as a continuing congress, and its holding was thereafter passed over. However, with the recent issue of the aging society drawing public attention and aging and physical activity research becoming internationally active, the congress was held for the first time 10 years later in 1984, and has been held 6 times since then until now.
The ISAPA is an international scientific body with the goal of maintaining/increasing the quality of life for the elderly, and its major activities are as follows:
This international scientific congress is utilized as a place to announce the latest research results related to the development, execution and evaluation of programs related to physical activity (exercise) for the elderly, and also as a place for people involved in the specialty fields of elderly health, fitness, and welfare to exchange ideas and for education and training.
